Overview
As you step aboard Gaia, things just seem different. It might be the warmth of her teak, her palatial cockpit, or the jauntiness of her bowsprit as you look forward to survey her lines. She is perfectly set up as a comfortable, spacious crusing yacht - ready to go with amenities for your long weekend or offshore adventure. Take a wander forward onto her bowsprit, turn around and look back. You will realize this is one of the best seats in the house just to take it all in when you are underway, especially if you have been joined by a dolphin or two on your journey.
Gaia is a well loved and cared for Whitby - Brewer 42. She is a 42 foot Center Cockpit Staysail Ketch, built in Canada in 1987 and one of the last two Whitby - Brewer's built in Whitby Ontario. With a moderate draft, she is the perfect boat whether you crave deep-water offshore passages, island hopping in the Bahamas, cruising the intracoastal or enjoying cocktails with friends at the marina. In fact, with Gaia's ample space, storage and appointments she would make an ideal floating home. Gaia has had many high-quality upgrades over the last few years, much of it in the last year. She has been meticulously maintained from her masthead to her through-hulls. Many of her core systems are new, all installation and refit work has been completed with the highest level of professionalism. Gaia is turn-key ready for the sailor just itching to drop the lines.
This wonderful yacht has two beautiful cabins, both with ensuite heads. Her large salon sports new upholstery, stainless steel opening ports throughout and several hatches for an abundance of light and ventilation. Gaia has a large hard-top that protects the cockpit and provides shade; or with easy access via her two ladder-type aft stanchions becomes the ultimate sun pad. Her LED lighted cockpit is perfect for evening gatherings on the hook or at the dock. With her shoal draft hull design, split rig, manageable sail system and large fuel and water capacity; plus, vast amounts of space and storage, Gaia is possibly the perfect sailing/crusing yacht. Gaia is truly, one of a kind. Gaia is conveniently located in Merritt Island, FL. within a one hour drive from Orlando International Airport. Please call or email for additional information and to schedule an appointment to see her for yourself.

Descriptions
Starting from the front of the boat, the forward cabin has two berths in a vee configuration with foam mattresses. Under each berth are drawers and storage bins. There is one large opening hatch (Bomar) with tinted plexiglass and a full-length hanging locker provided in the forward cabin. There is a large anchor chain locker which is accessible from the forward cabin. The chain locker is split for the chain and the rode. A door separates the forward cabin from the main salon.
The forward head is located on the port side just aft of the forward cabin, and has direct access from both salon and forward cabin through separate doors. It is equipped with a toilet, wash basin with pressure hot and cold water, shower, locker, towel racks, a mirror and ample storage. A Vetus solar powered vent fan is installed in the overhead. The shower drains into its own sump tank and the toilet is plumbed to both the central holding tank and overboard discharge through a Y valve.
The salon layout has a large folding dinette table to port with an L-shaped settee with enclosed shelves behind it. A long couch is on the starboard side with shelves, drawers, entertainment center, storage lockers and a hanging locker. In the forward starboard corner of the salon is a diesel-fired fireplace. The salon also has a large opening hatch (Bomar) with tinted plexiglass midships, as well as a smaller one over the galley. The galley is equipped with a new 4-burner Princess stove with an oven and broiler and a microwave. Her galley refrigeration is large, is a cold-plate type, and has top access for the freezer and fridge, as well as side access for the fridge.
The cabin sole is teak with a holly inlay and runs from the forward cabin straight through the aft cabin. Hatches in the cabin sole provide easy and excellent access to equipment below. The interior joinery is satin varnished mahogany and teak. Stainless steel opening ports are provided throughout. The storage throughout the vessel is exceptional. The navigation station has a large chart table with a chart drawer and space for radios and electronics on the starboard side of the salon.
The door to the large engine room area is just aft of the nav station in the passage to the master cabin. The engine can be easily accessed on all sides. The engine room is large and brightly lit. The main electrical panel is directly across from the engine room door in the passage aft of the nav station, and has book storage and a work bench surface adjacent.
The U-shaped galley is located on the port side, aft of the salon which includes a refrigerator/ freezer, double sinks, gimbled gas stove with oven and microwave. There is also a remote freezer temp gage and a remote LPG valve control provided here. The galley also has abundant storage throughout.
The beautifully fitted master cabin is accessed through a passage between the salon and master, or through a private companionway. It has a full-size berth with an HMC handcraft mattress (athwartships arrangement) with ensuite head and shower. There is a hanging locker and multiple other lockers, drawers, bookcases and storage bins plus a vanity. The cockpit can be accessed from the aft cabin. Like the forward cabin, the head is equipped with a toilet, wash basin with pressure hot and cold water, shower, locker, towel racks, a mirror and ample storage. A Vetus solar powered vent fan is installed in the overhead. The shower drains into its own sump tank and this toilet is also plumbed to both the central holding tank and overboard discharge through a Y-valve.
Hull & Deck
The one-piece fiberglass hull is built with integral stiffening members of compatible fiberglass. The deck, deckhouse and the cockpit are fiberglass molded in a single section. Teak decking was used in the cockpit seating area. Deck trim, toe rails and grab rails along the cabin top are varnished teak. Hatches are of the opening Bomar type and have translucent and tinted Plexiglas tops to provide additional lighting below decks. Four 5 inch stainless ventilation cowls are mounted on Dorades located three forward and one on the aft deck. The center cockpit has cushions and is fully enclosed with white canvas and roll up Isinglass side curtains. Located at the center cockpit steering station is a steering pedestal with a large stainless-steel wheel, throttle and transmission controls, navigation pods, autopilot controls, engine instruments, a remote VHF station and a large Ritchie compass.
Deck equipment includes polished stainless-steel bow and stern pulpits; polished stainless-steel stanchions and white plastic-coated lifelines with port, starboard and aft boarding gates; running lights and appropriate cleats and chocks. A folding swim ladder is provided that can be attached port or starboard. The bowsprit includes dual anchor rollers and a bobstay. The vessel is further equipped with tri-color light, masthead strobe and deck lights on the spreaders. A well-crafted fiberglass hard-top is installed over the cockpit that has integrated LED cockpit lighting, rod holders, aluminum frame and integrated ladder type stanchions aft. The hard-top can be used for sun bathing or deck storage if desired. The cockpit has large amounts of locker storage and is appointed with teak seating. The dinghy davits are heavily built and designed to carry a dingy with outboard attached if required. The dinghy is a 10? Apex dinghy with 15hp Honda outboard motor. A large lazarette is provided on the aft deck along with a dedicated LPG locker. The teak rub rail has a stainless-steel cap.
