Descriptions

1994 Caliber 35 Cutter / Accommodations

Interior Accommodations

The accommodations are luxurious, light and airy.  Beginning forward, the master stateroom can be closed off from the main cabin for true privacy.  It features an extra-large V-berth (measuring 7" x 6' 2" at its widest point) with generous stowage beneath.  There is also a bureau with a cedar-lined hanging locker and three-drawer storage.  Ventilation is great with a large screened hatch overhead, a 12-volt fan, and a screened portlight.

The fully enclosed head with stainless steel sink and shower is aft and to starboard. There's a portlight and overhead hatch, both with screens.  The head has two doors and can be privately accessed by either the main stateroom or the main saloon.

The roomy saloon is open and spacious and includes an audiophile quality stereo system. To port is a hanging locker and to starboard, a bulkhead mounted, drop-leaf table that easily seats six.  When deployed, it reveals a novel spirits locker.  The saloon features opposing settees that are upholstered in ocean blue with a fine herringbone pattern and are like new - clean and firm.  The port settee makes into a single berth, while the starboard settee converts into a double berth.  There's plenty of stowage behind and beneath the settees.  Light and air pour through the 5 screened portlights and two overhead hatches.  Additionally, three 12-volt fans provide excellent air circulation.

Aft and to starboard is the Hereshoff-style navigation station and the electrical distribution panel, which includes dual voltage and ammeters to monitor both the 12 volt DC and 120 volt AC systems. Adjacent to the panel is the VHF, SSB, solar regulator, hour meter, stereo, and satellite radio dock. Completing the package is a chart table with stowage beneath.

The guest cabin is situated directly aft and adjacent to the navigation station.  There's standing headroom as one enters and faces the navigation station. The large quarter berth measures 8' x 5'.  For illumination and ventilation there's a portlight and overhead hatch, both screened; and an additional portlight facing the cockpit foot well.  The cabin can be enclosed for privacy.

1994 Caliber 35 Cutter / Hull & Deck

Hull & Deck

The solid fiberglass hull incorporates an integrally molded shoal keel, rugged chainplate system, and an inward flanged hull-to-deck joint that's through bolted with a slotted aluminum toerail on top.  The high ballast to displacement ratio makes for a comfortable ride and easy motion in a seaway.  The performance cruising keel insures sure tracking and a safe ride.  Underneath the long waterline, the rudder is skeg hug.  Steerage is positive and responsive to the helm.

Raconteur II has a great cockpit layout, making it easy for single-handed sailing or comfortable for a crew of three or more.  All halyards, sheets, reefing lines, and vang are led aft through six rope clutches and to four self-tailing winches.  The seat backs are surrounded with a wide, flat, beautifully finished teak coaming that's not only attractive but also functional for seating on a windward reach to improve visibility for sail trim.  The T-shaped cockpit, destroyer wheel, binnacle mounted instruments, and teak cockpit table all contribute to a delightful sailing experience.

Another great feature is the molded-in sugar-scoop boarding platform and custom stainless steel swim ladder that provide for easy access from dinghy or swimming.  There's also a convenient hot & cold fresh water shower situated on the stern.
