Baron 43 E

Walk Around

Approaching The "Tom Cat" at the dock for the first time I had to take a moment to adjust to what personally is one of the most stunning Express Cruisers that I have seen in this size range.  These tastes are personal,  however this Baron 43 E just has everything in the right places.  The custom added hardtop blends into the the "Tom Cats" lines with what can only be described as a stroke of genius. A quick stroll around the topsides proved to be easily navigated with the sturdy 316 stainless steel railings.  On the bow is a large bow pulpit with the anchoring handled by the three year old Maxwell 1200 Windlass with a 40 lb. Stainless Danforth Anchor and 200' of all chain rode.  This is controlled with foot switches on the bow or from the switches at the Helm station,

Quality is evident from stem to stern.

Stepping Aboard this Baron I was pleasantly confronted with an exceptionally clean, bright, and well cared for craft. Starting at the integrated swim/dive platform.  Here is located platform lights with a stowable stainless swim step,  raw and fresh water outlets, shore cord inlet and a big "Tom Cat" that appears a little "under the weather".  Entering through the electric/hydraulic (with switch) transom gate, one finds a large and cheerful cockpit with forward facing settee's port and starboard.  There is stowage here, built into the rear of another forward settee. One step up and forward is a large conversation seating area.  Here the helm seat swivels back 90 deg. to make all seats facing.  There is a large "L" shaped settee across from the helm position with a fold out dining and drink table that is unobtrusive when folded.  There is an ice maker here to port with the very well laid out helm console to starboard. The companionway hatch is very well constructed with stainless steel trim.  This hatch is not flimsy,  but rather "shuts like a safe".  Stepping down into the Main Salon one is confronted with a space that exudes true yacht quality.  The galley is to port with a large "L" shaped sofa seating area to starboard.  There is a skylight in this space with slides that allow the light to be metered.  The styling is what I would consider contemporary and very tasteful. There is a large flat Sony flat screen TV here with surround sound speakers. the aqua color scheme is themed inside and out in the canvas and seating. The sole is fiberglass and of a Teak tongue and groove type that is very attractive and durable.  Teak accents abound throughout the vessel.  The galley is well laid out with Corian counters, Magic Chef 10 cubic ft. refrigerator and freezer,  Sharp microwave,  Origo cooktop,  Black and Decker Automatic Coffee maker and a porcelain sink.  Cabinets/storage abound in this area and throughout the yacht.  On forward to the Master Stateroom located at the bow is a Queen berth (all berths have real mattresses) which is easily made.  The bed spread for this queen was sewn by the owner and is quite attractive fitting the decor perfectly. Located here are louvered hanging closets port and starboard with ample drawers under the berth. There are overhead storage bin type cabinets running the length of this space port and starboard as well.  Reading lights,  A Sony flat screen TV and A/C controls are here for convenience.  The Head is to starboard and has entrances to the Master and to the passageway,  affording privacy to those using the space.  There is a circular shower stall here with a Vacu Flush toilet, designer faucet for the sink and plenty of overhead lighting for those that like to primp.  Directly across from this space and to port is the bunk room cabin.  This space has over and under bunks,  a louvered hanging closet and is not so large as to rule out a lot of living space in the vessel.

Overall This vessel is roomy and very livable.

Edwards Broker Observations

Tom Cat is an exceptionally well maintained vessel.  There are small things that are unavoidable due to age,  however with the quality of this vessel being of excellent build, one might choose "Tom Cat" over a newer vessel.  The primary equipment on this vessel is first class. Replacement cost of a vessel like this would be very heavy.  At the current asking price,  I feel this vessel a smart purchase for the prospective buyer.
