Basic Known Issues
Vessel was in the middle of a refit when the owner passed away. Information comes from two friends, a fellow boat owner & dock mate and a retired superyacht chief engineer whom was assisting him with the refit. He felt comfortable enough with the vessel to help him with his plans to deliver her to the US.
Engines, bottom and structure are sound. Most items are cosmetic, but she is a project. There are water stains and some soft wood on the interior bulkheads and paneling. The salon sole is bare and needs covering. The oven is missing and the stove is inop. The new electronics are missing, but the new Garmin radar dome is on the boat. There is no generator and the four air conditioners are not known to be working. The teak decks are worn, but no soft spots were found. The NAIAD stabilizers are inop. There is no canvas on the bimini. One replacement head is still in the box, but included.
The below statement, from a September 2010 e-mail, is from Bill, the engineer whom was assisting the owner with his refit;
"I would appreciate anything you might know on what Ton has done, maintenance and improvements, to the boat and what needs to be completed."
"Fitted New refrigerator in galley, Coffe maker, New toilet transfer pump with "Y" piece to allow pump to shore facility or to holding tank. Fuel tanks emptied, cleaned, refilled (approx 6 months ago). All fuel filter system reinstated. All fuel lines from fuel filter system to engines replaced. Bilge pump in E/R replaced. Freshwater pump replaced. Freshwater tanks opened, cleaned and resealed. Engines - I did not help with this as I was away for a while - Heads removed, head gaskets replaced, heat exchangers, removed, cleaned and pressure tested, alternators removed, rebuilt, other than this work, the engines ran well. Last time out of the water - prop shafts removed and replaced, propellor shaft mounting tubes removed from hull, interior of skegs cleaned, inside condition OK, tubes remounted and sealed into hull, new cutless bearings fitted, new shaft seals fitted, one new shaft/ gearbox coupling fitted, shaft alignment performed, bilges under gearboxes, cleaned and painted, bottom antifouled. There are no blisters on the hull, I had seen her out of the water a few times. New house batteries fitted (I think?). Generator - as far as I am aware the generator was a throw away. I think Ton was planning to replace it in the states. The only soft area I was aware of, was the fwd engine room bulkhead, top of the stb side, behind the access ladder. Looked like dry rot from previous water leaks from decks. Many other small improvements had been completed. We had recently before Tons passing, driven the boat around the island and were preparing to help him deliver it to Florida.
I am a chief engineer previously on superyachts, and I was feeling comfortable helping him deliver the boat. I hope this helps, any other questions please ask. Bill "
Broker Comments
While a project boat, St. Christopher, is sound mechanically and structurally with no cosmetic issues that would deter her movement. She will make someone a fine long range cruiser with some repair and TLC. An excellent project boat with a good foundation, she will be stored on the hard August 1 until after the storm season. Owner is motivated and looking for offers.
