This boat is equipped with a monitoring system that is usually found on mega yachts, as the former owner was a marine electrical engineer. This is the information that he provided.
It was a high priority to make sure the engines and generator never ran at elevated temperatures. Overheating is the number one cause of catastrophic engine failure and we could not afford to have an engine rebuilt.
At the time, I was involved in providing upgrades of shipboard monitoring systems to the mega yacht industry. Some of our customers paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for these monitoring upgrades.
It seemed only natural to install a similar system on our new boat (September Dance) to provide a new level of safety and protection for the expensive main engines and generator.
Caterpillar has been providing electronic engine monitoring systems (similar to that found on September Dance) with their engines since the year 2000 (as per ChatGPT).
Engine and boat manufactures have been quick to realize that an electronic monitoring system has many advantages over traditional gauges such as:
1). Much more accurate information readouts.
2). The ability to generate alarms if an engine goes out of it's normal operating parameters (overheats for instance). Alarm trip points are much more accurate than traditional types.
3). Reduced space requirements.
4). The ability to record engine data in the background as the engine is running.
5). Greatly reduced wiring requirements.
A popular industry standard monitoring system (Maretron) for September Dance would probably cost over $10,000 in parts and software and $20,000 to install.
The computer, when connected to Wi-Fi (while you are away from it), will generate an email or telephone call to alert you should the monitoring system detect any system failures, such as high water or bilge pumps engaging, etc.
Salon is equipped with an air leather two seater sofa, and two leather Ekornes stressless recliners with footstools. New 32" RV TV installed in the salon with a rotating bracket.
Galley has a dinette, three burner electric stove, microwave and toaster oven. Double stainless steel deep sink. Full size refrigerator that will run off the inverter, while underway, if you choose not to run the generator. Galley is fully equipped with dishes, silverware, pots, pans, crockpot, and Keurig coffeemaker.
New cutlass bearings installed February, 2025, starboard propeller balanced and trued, equipped with Two 4 bladed Nibral propellers
New macerator pump installed February, 2025.
