Descriptions
DescriptionThis steel hull, 43' ketch was designed, built and equipped to go to the far corners of the world and to do it in comfort and style.
Upon entering the pilothouse of this blue water center cockpit ketch- with its teak bench's, hardtop and large windows - that delivers awesome visibility, you will immediately get the sense of being in a extremely safe and secure spot -where to drive the boat. Even in the roughest of seas you'll stay dry and comfortable.
Descending down into the main salon you are greeted with the beauty of a classic. The high 6'10" ceiling in the saloon furnished with the rich tongue and groove walls and wood cabinetry and the beautiful inlaid table all lit by an abundance of port lights will charm you.
At the bottom of the steps you move to the port and you encounter the navigational station with the electrical panel in a easy to access location. Aft of the nav. station is a door that leads to a storage and workshop area. In this room there is a sliding door granting wide access to the 50 Hp Perkin Engine; that was rebuilt in 2005 and has only 1,700 hrs on it.
Turning to the bow and moving along the port side we encounter the main salon. The 6 person settee with its inlaid table provides the center of living on this vessel, right across on the starboard side is a two person lounge. The cabinetry in the salon is just beautiful.
Moving forward there's a vented door on the portside that leads into the head and across from it is a set of hanging closets and going forward is the entrance to a large V-berth. Turning and heading back down the starboard and a passing the two person lounge is the galley. The galley equipped with stainless steel double sink, microwave, oven with three burn stove and a 12v Refrigerator and freezer unit. Nice counters and plenty of storage.
Continuing pass the galley takes you to the passageway leading to the a large aft cabin. Within the passageway is another sliding door entrance to the engine. Making servicing and maintaining the engine easy. The large aft cabin has a Pullman queen bed on the port side and once again plenty of storage.
All Sails inspected and professionally repaired in 2013 all fittings are Norseman type.
* Singer professional sailmaker sewing machine in new condition
Engine:
50 HP Perkins 4-108 diesel, current 1,700 hours after re-build: Standard rebuild with replacement of the block, starter, fuel injection pump, heat exchanger, lift pump, water pump, The cylinders and injectors were reconditioned and everything checked over, engine rebuild was done in 2005 in St. Thomas USVI by VI Techno diesel. New exhaust system, waterlift muffler and gooseneck for protection from following seas.
Generator:
Honda 2kW generator
2008 all deck fittings and masts were removed and then the deck, topsides and hull were sanded and 2 coats of Hempel zinc base epoxy were spray applied. Two coats of Pintuco polyurethane were then sprayed on top of the epoxy on the topsides and deck .The deck received 2 coats of rolled on polyurethane in 2013.The bottom paint last applied in 2013 used Hempel
The bilge area under the engine was cleaned and checked when the engine was out. Under the engine is a 4.5l'x2'wx3.5d opening into the keel. The walls of this opening are thick steel 1/2"+ and the bottom is sealed with epoxy and tar. This is a common type of construction for steel boats of this era. This "bilge" provides for the collection of water from the other narrow bilges in the boat and the 2 electric and 1 manual bilge pumps operate on this bilge. The opening on the keel has normal surface rust on the inside but no deterioration.
Rudder Post Area - The coatings were stripped from the general area of the rudder post when a new piece was welded in. The areas were cleaned and painted with 3 coats of zinc based expoxy primer inside and out. The steel is in good condition
Stuffing Box Area - a dripless seal/no stuffing box'
Head/Sink/Tanks/Anchor Locker:
The head area and under the sink are not easily accessible but have epoxy and paint covered by foam blocks. Under and beside the engine are inspected annually and coatings are epoxy and polyurethane and the steel is good. There are 2 fuel tanks, 3 water tanks and 2 waste tanks which have limited access.
The bilges below these tanks are not easily accessible but should be protected with coatings as in other areas. The anchor/chain locker has been recently inspected and epoxied/painted. A piece of the deck under the windlass was replaced. We have an industrial grade ultrasound thickness gauge to check the steel externally where we can not get at it from the inside. This is a good indicator of the integrity of the steel when it can not be inspected easily from the inside.
